We specialize in supporting non-profits looking to make an impact in their communities. They supply the mission, and we help them with the message. Here’s the thing: we love what we do, and we love who we do it with. That’s why we’re launching the new Client Spotlight blog series.
First up, we want to tell you about Nurses Drawdown.
Nurses Drawdown is a group of nurses who believe that the health of our climate and environment are vital to the health of their patients.
Their mission statement:
At the heart of Nursing is the understanding that optimal health requires good nutrition, adequate mobility, a healthy environment, and social support. Through a commitment to the evidence-based Nurses Drawdown actions, nurses will improve the health of individuals and communities, while also taking steps to heal the planet.
How they do it:
Nurses are consistently voted for as the #1 trusted professionals. The health care heroes at Nurses Drawdown decided to use that trust to help educate other nurses and communities about how the climate crisis impacts health and what they can do to help.
Nurses, as well as midwives, are encouraged to join the Drawdown movement and take action both personally and professionally in 1 (or more!) of these 5 categories:
- Energy
- Gender Equity
- Food
- Mobility
- Nature
What does that look like? One member of the Nurses Drawdown community shares her experience as a school nurse here:
Barrera shares that she has seen a steady increase in children suffering from asthma over the course of her career, As you can see, the climate change crisis is impacting community members at a very young age. She has decided to take action in the food category by transitioning to a more plant based diet.
“Emissions could be reduced by as much as 70 percent through adopting a vegan diet and 63 percent for a vegetarian diet.”
What you can do:
Maybe even you can try out meatless Monday! Even just one day a week can make a huge difference.
The members of the Nurses Drawdown movement are passionate individuals dedicated to improving the health of both our environment and the people living in it.
We are so proud and thankful to be a part of this outstanding movement!
